Great news here! At the latest conference it was announced that Ruby 3 will be three times faster! Let’s have a look what it means for Ruby developers and the whole industry.
What is going on?
Recently developer conference EuRuKo 2016 took place in Bulgaria. One of the major speakers there was Yukihiro “MATZ” Matsumoto, who is one of the major masterminds behind the Ruby. He has been designing Ruby since 1993, so we owe him basically everything we enjoy in the modern Ruby world. During his lecture he confirmed so-called Ruby 3×3. This means that Ruby 3 will be 3 times faster than Ruby 2. And this is fantastic news! Let’s have a look why everybody is so excited about this.
Why should I care?
Ruby 3×3 is great news for both those who code on Ruby and those who have their software written on Ruby. Programming with Ruby on Rails is the main vector of our company. We love it so much.
But there’s one thing that might make not so perfect – Ruby is a bit slow. Sure its performance has been improving over time, but hasn’t reached the perfection. The announcement by Matz means that now Achilles’ heel of Ruby wil be cured, which will bring about the following perks:
- Faster development – all issues will be dealt with much faster now;
- Lower costs for development – we will be able to code quicker, so less time will be required;
- Better bug fix – higher speed of Ruby means better mobility with fixing the problems.
As you see, this is a win-win situation. And Rubyroid Labs Team can’t wait to put their fingers on new shiny Ruby 3. The exact release date hasn’t been announced yet, but we will keep you informed.
