Recently Rubyroid Labs took part in quite a special activity – IT Holidays. It is an event organized for kids from every corner of Belarus to learn more about software development career, its perspectives and challenges. Get inside to learn how it went.
IT Holidays is a Republican level event designed to show and tell the young generation about a career in software development. It took place on January 4-6, when kids have winter holidays at school, and let more than 400 students to meet professionals from leading Belarusian IT companies.
Rubyroid Labs couldn’t lose a chance to meet the next generation of bright minds, so we yield a ready consent to show them around our office and share some lectures about the peculiarities of IT in Belarus and challenges of software development.
Our CEO Valentine Zavadsky was glad to meet and talk to the kids both from big cities like Minsk and smaller ones like Rechitsa:
– I was lucky to give lectures to 2 different age groups: 16-18 years old and 10-14 years old. Younger ones were most interested in the peculiarities of software developer career, difference between developers from Belarus and United States.
My biggest surprise was that when I asked the older group “What language should a developer learn?”, there were many answers like “Java”, “Python”, etc. But when I asked the younger ones, they immediately said “English”, which I think is the best answer.
IT Holidays turned out to be great inspiration for both kids and developers. It was great to see each other and charge up with some positive energy. See you next time!
